YAY! *wild cheering*
Ahem. Today I am kicking off the first ever Secret Agent Fiber Arts giveaway. Marnie MacLean has graciously agreed to sponsor this contest by donating one of her patterns as the prize! Thanks so much, Marnie!
Okay, here are the deets.
Did you know that sock yarn is a secret agent? Did you know that it works undercover? Believe it or not, it does! You see, there is this misconception that sock yarn can only be used for, well, socks! But that is not true! See for yourself!
Rockstar
Latifa
Lace Ribbon Scarf
Anne Shirley
And those are just four scarfs! (Anne Shirley is my favorite.
)
So, here’s the deal. Marnie has agreed to give the winner a free copy of her Erte Cloche pattern, which uses sock yarn. There are a couple of ways to enter.
1. Comment on this blog post.
2. Tweet about the contest.
3. Blog about the contest.
4. Flickr about the contest.
However, I’m only going to count an entry if you:
(a) mention your favorite sock yarn
(b) mention your favorite pattern that IS NOT socks that uses sock yarn
(c) post a picture (this is where Flickr comes in) of your favorite non-sock project that you made using sock yarn.
So, if you comment, that’s one entry. If you Twitter about it, you need to also comment about it so that I know you twittered! Same if you blog or Flickr. And if you go totally hogwild and design a pattern for the contest, that is worth 5 bonus entries. 10 if the pattern is free. *grins*
So, dear readers, you have until October 31st at midnight to enter! Choose one entry method or do them all! Please only enter once per method per day. So you could theoretically have over 100 entries!
(Oh, and if you are interested in donating a prize, let me know, please! secret agent knits AT ya hoo DOT com!)

Hehehe I saw your “come on, guys!” post and I thought I’d make a comment for ya so you know why your stats say someone has looked at your page but not entered
I won’t be entering the competition because sadly:
1. I don’t know how to knit so the pattern prize would be no good to me. I only crochet and just started a week ago, and
2. I don’t know what sock yarn is!
But I just wanted to say it would be a great prize for someone who does fulfill that criteria. Thanks for the great idea!
Sock yarn is basically fingering weight yarn, very thin, and pretty! And I am trying to come up with a crochet prize, so…..
Well, bother. I understand your reasons!
I can’t enter because I don’t knit but I love your blog! Your ramblings are so much fun! I think you have a follower here.
Thanks for the compliment! You know, that is the second time in as many weeks that I’ve been told I’m fun to talk/listen to?
Kinda nice! (Of course, someone else told me I’m scary. lol I think it’s a compliment if it’s coming from him!
)

Cool contest! I’m going to have to think about this!
Well, you are already entered! *grins* (Unless you don’t WANT to be, of course. But that would be sad. :p)
I don’t get the chance to use much sock yarn but what’s at my local craft store. Currently I’m working a pair of crochet fingerless gloves out of Paton’s Kroy Sock Yarn. So far so good. I LOVE using sock yarn for things other than socks!
Well, I *may* or may not have some sock yarn to give away as an additional prize. But you probably can get it at your local craft store anyhow! Oh well! The dilema is do I keep it or give it away? LOL
I’ve also tweeted the contest I have LOTS of crocheters and knitters on my Twitter I’m @glitterrayne
Yay, thank you!
My favorite sock yarn would probably be Creatively Dyed Yarn’s Beaches. http://www.ravelry.com/yarns/library/creatively-dyed-yarn-beaches
My favorite sock yarn pattern is Knotty Gloves. http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/knotty-gloves
And my favorite thing that I’ve made with sock yarn that isn’t socks are my fingerless gloves (sorry I don’t do flickr). http://images4-cache.ravelry.com/uploads/kc2sjj/2542008/n6op4i_medium.jpg
Hey, it’s not like it’s a requirement for people to be on Flickr! (Just like it’s not a requirement to be on Ravelry, right?
)
Anyhow, I presume this is the yarn? An 80/20 wool/nylon blend? http://creativelydyed.com/?mainURL=/store/category/g9sw/Beaches.html
Looks like Knotty Gloves is a Ravelry only pattern, am I right?
Nice gloves!
Thanks for entering, good luck!
Yes, that’s the yarn! Nice colors, right? And here’s a link to a picture of the Knotty Gloves. http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3098/2915113059_960147ed0d.jpg
Yeah, they’re gorgeous! Looks like yetanotherobsession for me! lol
Ooooh, so pretty! Thanks for the link! Do you have the designer’s website?
i would like some sock yarn!
So would I!
Actually, I am still trying to decide if I am providing another prize. I guess I should figure that out by Saturday, huh? lol
Need to get the pics off my camera…
